BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University will host the “Festival of Bulgarian Music” on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 N Park St.). Part of Illinois Wesleyan’s New Music Series and co-sponsored by the Illinois Chamber Music Festival, the concert will feature Bulgarian classical and folk music, contemporary pieces of composer Velislav Zaimov, as well as pieces by other Bulgarian composers. The event is free and open to the public.
Prominent Bulgarian musicians such as violinist Yosif Radionov, pianist Zornitza Radionova, and Zaimov will perform at the concert. Students of Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State University will also join the performers. To end the concert, the ensemble “Balkanalia,” directed by Associate Professor of Musicology Donna Buchanan from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will present traditional Bulgarian folk.
