BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan chapter of Colleges Against Cancer will sponsor the third annual benefit fundraiser, Stand-up Against Cancer, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 in the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington). Titled “Comedian Rhapsody,” this year’s show will feature four Illinois Wesleyan students including the founder of Stand-up Against Cancer and the Illinois Wesleyan Chapter of Colleges Against Cancer, junior business major, Kevin Lewis.
Sophomore music major Lauren Van Vleet, junior nursing major Marita Calderon and sophomore psychology major Ryan Quinn will also perform comedic acts.
The event is open to the public, and asks for a minimum donation of $3. All of the proceeds will sponsor the Wesleyan chapter of Colleges Against Cancer at the Relay for Life event taking place at Illinois State University on Apr. 25. The money raised at Relay for Life, will then be directly donated to the American Cancer Society.
Colleges Against Cancer is a nationwide branch of the American Cancer Society that allows students, faculty and staff to work together while bringing American Cancer Society programs and services to college communities nationwide. Wesleyan’s chapter is made up of 12 core members who raise money for cancer research, as well as promote general awareness about cancer and cancer prevention. “Raising money and awareness has led to great strides in cancer treatments and prevention,” says Lewis, “I am certain it will continue to do so in the future, until cancer is nothing but a distant memory.”
