Evelyn Chapel Programs for Fall Semester
September 2, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – University Chaplain Hope Luckie will feature 3 programs: Multifaith Peer Council, Movie Nights, and Diversity Forum at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park St., Bloomington) this semester.
Each program is free and open to the public and will take place at the Evelyn Chapel.
The Multifaith Peer Council, which will take place every other Monday, will facilitate discussion between students of different faiths regarding their religious beliefs.
The program, which first began last year, will include a new element this semester. Each session will feature a different IWU professor who will speak about their own experience with faith and take part in a question and answer discussion after their presentation.
“This is my attempt to help students get to know their professors in different ways while learning about others’ journeys of faith,” said Luckie.
Movie Nights, scheduled monthly on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m., will occur in conjunction with Luckie’s Gateway course: Faith and Film. The program features a variety of movies with discussions about faith themes to follow each film.
The Diversity Forum, which will take place once a month as part of chapel hour, will feature a guest speaker who will discuss diversity and their own faith experiences. These speakers will also be invited to speak in certain classes and take part in other campus activities.
The September schedule is as follows:
• Monday, Sept. 8 at 5:30 p.m. – Multifaith Peer Council First Meeting
• Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. - Movie Night featuring the film The Namesake
• Monday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. – Multifaith Peer Council featuring Greg Shaw associate professor of political science
• Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. – Diversity Forum Chapel Hour featuring the Rev. Dr. Abraham Waya, who is ordained and serves in the United Methodist Church
