Summer Music Program 2009

As part of its 2009 Summer Music Programs, Illinois Wesleyan University offers a Cello Camp (June 11-21) and Chamber Music Festival and Camp (June 24 - July 12) to young musicians of college, high school, and junior high ages, who wish to participate in intensive musical training on the historic campus of Illinois Wesleyan University.   All performances are free and open to the public and take place in Westbrook Auditorium, Presser Hall, 1210 Park St., Bloomington, Ill.

Illinois Wesleyan University Cello Camp

The ninth season of Cello Camp will be held June 11-21.  The camp enrolls 30 participants from more than ten states.

The cello studies include daily private cello lessons and cello ensembles, master classes, rehearsals, and performances.

The Cello Camp’s elective activities are singing, tennis, international dance, and conversational foreign language.  Past languages have included Chinese, Hindi, Swahili, ancient Egyptian, and Bulgarian.  This year we are offering Russian.

The Cello Camp will conclude with the 15th annual Midwest Cello Celebration a combined performance of the camp’s students, faculty and guests.

Tuition

Tuition is $600.

Room and board for out of town participants is an additional $475.

Deadline

The deadline for Cello Camp is May 1. 2009.  Campus housing is limited; please apply early.  Upon acceptance, you will receive a letter with arrival time, rules and regulations, a list of items to bring to camp, maps of Bloomington and the IWU campus, and a personal waiver to be signed by parents or guardians.

Illinois Chamber Music Festival and Camp at IWU

June 24 - July 12, 2009

The Illinois Chamber Music Festival and Camp at IWU for strings, piano, winds, and harp will be held June 24 through July 12.  This program is designed for young musicians who wish to participate in intensive chamber music training.  The schedule consists of daily coaching, rehearsals, master classes, and performances by students and faculty.  Other studies and activities include singing, international dance, tennis, and swimming.

Pre-formed groups with prepared repertoire will be able to perform in opening master classes. 

Tuition

Tuition is $800.  Room and board for out of town participants is an additional $800. 
Need-based scholarships are available.

International Chamber Music Festival--Bulgaria 2009

Participants of the IWU Chamber Music Festival and Cello Camp are invited to join us for a 21-day program in Bulgaria, the International Chamber Music Academy -- Kyustendil (ICMA), July 15-Aug. 5, 2009. Please contact Nina Gordon at (309) 556-3828 for more information.

Pre-formed groups participating in both the IWU and Bulgaria festivals will have additional performance opportunities at the opening of the Bulgaria Festival. A few scholarships are available for those who participate in both IWU and Bulgaria Festivals.

The International Chamber Music Academy in Bulgaria is not a part of the Illinois Chamber Music Festival at IWU. Faculty from the Illinois Festival participate in ICMA in an advisory and teaching capacity only.
