Dr. Scifres currently serves as adjunct professor of voice. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Hardin-Simmons University, completed a Master of Arts for Teachers degree from Colorado State University, and was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa.  Since coming to Illinois Wesleyan in 1967, Dr. Scifres has taught studio voice, diction for singers, vocal pedagogy, elementary conducting, vocal techniques, music appreciation, and has conducted the Women's Chorus and Chapel Choir.  Dr. Scifres has been a soloist in Texas, Colorado, Iowa, and Illinois.  He is a frequent solo and ensemble adjudicator and guest choral conductor and clinician in Illinois and Florida.  Long active in music education and church music in Illinois, Texas, and Colorado, Dr. Scifres has done considerable research on the physical and mental aspects of singing, and he has given workshops on the techniques of singing.  He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
