Tammy is a native of Central Illinois. She received her undergraduate education at Bradley University where she studied Music Theory and Clarinet with Dr. Stephen Heinemann. Tammy received Master of Arts in Music Theory from University of Washington where her principle professors were Dr. Jonathan Bernard and Dr. John Rahn. Her forthcoming doctoral dissertation deals with pitch space and harmony in the mature works of composer Witold Lutoslawski. Other research interests include the minimalist aesthetic and the use of minimalist techniques in the music of John Adams, the adaptation of Schenkerian techniques for use in analysis of popular music, specifically that of the Beatles, generative theory, and theories of rhythm. While at the University of Washington, Tammy served as a teaching assistant in music theory for 3 ½ years. After leaving the University of Washington, she have served as an adjunct professor of music theory at Illinois Central College for seven years and as a sabbatical replacement for Dr. Stephen Heinemann at Bradley University. Tammy resides in rural Washington, Illinois where she enjoys spending time caring for, riding and training her six horses and playing with her Border Collie.
