April 28-29
The Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team finished fifth in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships, held April 28-29 at Bloomington's Evergreen Racquet Club. The Titans lost their first round match to Elmhurst, 5-2, before winning the fifth place match over North Central, 5-2. Dan Chang was a two-time singles winner at No. 1, downing Dan Farette of Elmhurst, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, and beating North Central's Billy Wangerow, 6-1, 6-1. Chang also paired with Paul Oehrlein to beat Wangerow and Billy Baumann of North Central at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. The Titans' season ended with a 3-15 dual match record.
April 22
The Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team split a pair of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin road matches on Sat., April 22, losing to Elmhurst, 5-2, before defeating North Central, 6-1. Senior captain Tyler Smith was undefeated on the day, topping Elmhurst's Will Bonnmasaneah (6-2, 6-0) and North Central's Russ Pantek (6-4, 6-4) at No. 5 singles and also winning two doubles matches with his partner Art Kastl. The Titans will compete in the CCIW championships on Friday and Saturday, April 28-29, at Bloomington's Evergreen Racquet Club.
April 20
The Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team will face two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opponents on Sat., April 22 in preparation for the season-ending CCIW tournament, which will be April 28-29 at Bloomington's Evergreen Racquet Club. Freshman Paul Oehrlein has a 5-7 record at No. 4 singles and is 1-0 at No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Dan Chang and Ryan Stitt has a record of 4-7 overall as the Titans as a team have recorded a 1-12 overall mark and are 0-3 against conference opponents.
