NCAA Third Place Banner Unveiled
Dec. 16, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A new banner honoring the third place finish of the 2005-06 Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team in the NCAA Division III tournament was unveiled at the Shirk Center prior to the Titans' game against the University of Chicago at 3 p.m. on Dec. 16.
The Titans were 25-7 last season and their banner will be displayed alongside the national championship banner of 1997 and two other third place banners (1996, 2001).
Returning for the ceremony were seven of the eight seniors from last year's team (Keelan Amelianovich is in Spain) along with six other lettermen who are on this year's squad, including seniors Zach and Andrew Freeman, Tyler Smith and Mike Harrigan; junior Darius Gant; and sophomore Andrew Gilmore.
The seniors from the 2006 team are doing a variety of things since graduation, including Amelianovich playing professionally in Lliria, Spain; Matt Arnold is leaving for Grand Cayman in January to attend medical school at St. Matthew's University School of Medicine; Adam Dauksas also tried out for the Spain basketball league and now works for a law firm in Chicago, preparing to attend John Marshall Law School in January; Jason Fisher and Chris Jones work for the regional office of Bloomington's State Farm Insurance Companies; Cory Jones works as a senior underwriter for Universal Casualty Co. in the Chicago area; Mike McGraw is a loan officer at a bank in his hometown of Litchfield, Ill., and coaches the high school junior varsity team; and Steve Schweer attends John Marshall Law School at nights and works for the Chicago law firm of Ice Miller LLP during the days.
