IWU’s Zach Freeman Named First Team all-CCIW
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan senior Zach Freeman has been chosen unanimously to the first team of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-star squads in voting today by league coaches.
A 6-foot-7 center from Bloomington (Normal Community HS), Freeman was a second team honoree in 2006 and 2005 and a third team selection as a freshman. He led the CCIW in conference games only in scoring (22.4) and rebounding (8.1), was fourth in field goal percentage (.575) and fifth in free throw percentage (.824).
The durable Freeman, who led the league in minutes played (35.93 per game), was also fourth in blocked shots with 1.43 per game and his 1.93 assists per game was 12th best in the league.
The Titans, who were 4-10 and finished seventh in the CCIW, finished second in the league stats in scoring offense (72.9) and rebounds (32.2) and third in field goal percentage (.494).
Wheaton’s Kent Raymond is the winner of the 2007 “Fred Young Most Outstanding Player” award and Augustana’s Grey Giovanine was tabbed “Coach of the Year” for the second straight season.
The player award is named for 1915 IWU graduate Fred Young, who was the conference’s first commissioner and served in the position for 17 years. He was a longtime sports editor of The Pantagraph and starred at IWU in basketball, baseball and tennis. The former fieldhouse at Illinois Wesleyan was named in his honor.
