Dauksas Named Finalist for Cousy Award
Illinois Wesleyan University senior Adam Dauksas (Homewood, Ill., Homewood-Flossmoor HS) was named one of 16 finalists for the 2006 Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford, an annual honor bestowed to the nation’s top collegiate point guard.
The announcement was made Thurs., Feb. 2, by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in conjunction with The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.

The finalists were chosen from across the country, with 12 coming from NCAA Division I institutions, including Dee Brown of last year’s national runner-up University of Illinois and Syracuse University’s Gerry McNamara, who led the Orange to the 2003 national championship, as well as two from Division II and two from Division III schools.

Through games of Feb. 2, Dauksas has 506 career assists, behind only Brian Martin (524, 1989-93) in school history and is already tied for the IWU game record with 14 assists (set in 2003-04).
He has played on teams that have won three College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships and played in three NCAA Division III tournaments. IWU teams in his career are 80-21 (.792) in games through Feb. 2.
In other IWU career lists, Dauksas is No. 4 in 3-pointers (182), tied for No. 16 in scoring (1,309 points), tied for No. 6 in free throws made (337) and his .789 free throw percentage is seventh best in an IWU career.
Through games of Jan. 29, he is No. 7 in Division III in assists per game and No. 18 in 3-point field goal percentage and ranks in the top 11 in six College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin statistical categories, including assists (1), 3-pointers per game (4), 3-point percentage (6), assist/turnover ratio (5), free throw percentage (7), and scoring (11).
Dauksas was the league’s “Most Outstanding Player” in 2005, a first team All-American and the Midwest Region “Player of the Year.”
A preseason first team All-American this year, Dauksas was named as the “MVP” of early season Wabash Little Giant Classic and tied a school record with eight 3-pointers in a game (at Elmhurst, Jan. 14).
