Six Titans Named all-Central Region

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Six members of the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team have earned all-Central region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Senior second baseman Ricky Angel and sophomore leftfielder Kraig Ladd and righthanded pitcher Brent Kulavic were chosen to the first team, senior centerfielder Tim McInerney and junior lefthander Matt Aronson were on the second team and junior designated hitter Kevin Goshorn was on the third team of the ABCA/Rawlings all=region squads.

Angel (Glen Ellyn, Glenbard West HS), a first team all-region selection last year, batted .351 with 14 doubles, 11 home runs and a school-record 67 runs batted in. Angel finished his career as IWU's all-time leader in hits (260), runs (157), runs batted in (189), total bases (410), times hit by pitch (36), intentional walks (10) and at bats (680).

Ladd (Shelbyville HS) led the Titans with a .381 batting average and his 19 doubles is the second most in an IWU season.

Kulavic (Springfield, Pleasant Plains HS) was 6-1 with a 1.82 earned run average. He struck out 59 in 59 1/3 innings and had four complete games.

McInerney (River Forest, Oak Park River Forest HS) was second on the team with a .360 batting average and scored a team-high 58 runs, the second most in an Illinois Wesleyan season. His 18 doubles is tied for fifth most in an IWU season.

Aronson (LaGrange, St. Ignatius HS), a first team all-region selection last year, had a 7-1 record with a 3.49 earned run average. He struck out 69 in 80 innings and pitched four complete games.

Goshorn (New Lenox, Lincoln Way Central HS) batted .324 with six doiuble, eight home runs and 33 runs driven in.

The Titans were 33-11 overall and advanced to the NCAA Division III regional for the fourth time in the last five years. IWU went 18-3 to win the CCIW regular season title.
