IWU Lands Six on all-CCIW Baseball Squads

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - - Six Illinois Wesleyan baseball players were chosen to the all-league squads in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in voting by CCIW coaches today.

Elected to the first team were senior pitcher Dave Dobosz and senior outfielder Nick Chilczenkowski while senior outfielder Joe Howard, senior utility player Pat Cinquegrani, sophomore infielder Ricky Angel and freshman infielder Rob Cummings were all chosen for the second team.

The lefthanded Dobosz (Lombard, Glenbard West HS) was fourth in the league with a 1.43 earned run average and had a 5-1 record. He struck out 27 and walked only four in 44 innings.

Chilczenkowski (LaFox, Geneva HS), a second team selection last spring and a first team all-CCIW player in 2004, led the CCIW with 15 walks and was second in the league with 28 runs batted in. His .403 average was eighth best and his 45 total bases was tied for fourth.

Howard (Downers Grove, Montini HS), on the second team for the third straight year, tied for the CCIW lead with eight doubles. He hit .384 with 19 RBI, two homers and scored 15 runs.

Cinquegrani (Barrington, Palatine Fremd HS) was a second team choice last year and a first team all-CCIW player as a sophomore. He tied for the conference lead with 15 stolen bases and was third in the league with 25 runs scored. He batted .362 with four doubles and 10 RBI.

Angel (Glen Ellyn, Glenbard West HS), a first team all-CCIW selection in 2005, batted .358 with 19 runs and 15 runs batted in. His eight doubles tied Howard for the league lead.

Cummings (Oak Lawn, St. Rita HS) was ninth in the CCIW with a .400 average. He had six doubles, two home runs, 13 runs batted in and scored 15 times.

Scott Evosevich of Carthage and Andrew Setter of Augustana were so-winners of the “Pitcher of the Year” honor while Elmhurst’s Anthony Contaldo was tabbed “Player of the Year. North Park’s Luke Johnson was named “Coach of the Year.”

The Titans finished with a 28-14 overall record and were 14-7 in the CCIW, finishing third in the league.
