| Configure Your Laptop You may bring your own laptop into The Ames Library and connect it to the network. Every table has an open data port (blue) on each end, every carrell has one open port and most of the comfortable seating areas have open data ports available on the wall. - Configure your laptop to connect to the network

- Windows 2000 - XP and ME
- Click the "Start" button and then choose "Run"
- Type "cmd" and hit the ENTER key
- Type "ipconfig/release" to release your current ip number
- Type "ipconfig/renew" to obtain a valid library ip address
You should see a screen showing your new ip number - Type "EXIT" to return to Windows
- Windows 95 and 98
- Click the "Start" button and then choose "Run"
- Type "winipcfg" and choose "ok" - your current ip settings are displayed
- Select the "release" button
- Select the "renew" button
- Type "EXIT" to return to windows
- If you need a network cable you may check one out in the Thorpe Digital Center.
- Choose an open data port, connect your network cable, and you should be able to connect to the network.
Please Note: When you return to your room you will need to repeat this process to release the library ip address and obtain a vailid ip address for you room.
