Saturday:  10am-10pm

Sunday:  12pm-1:30am

Below is a job descprition for all of the student jobs in The Ames Library.

*Circulation Services Student Assistant*

           Provide excellent Customer Service by: checking in/out materials and equipment, utilizing phone skills;  answering directional questions and making appropriate referrals; maintaining the library stacks by shelving library materials, shelf reading and physically shifting the collection; retrieving and processing of incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan materials; extensive use of interlibrary loan software; delivering interlibrary loan materials on campus in all types of weather; lifting heavy bags.  Assisting with copiers and other service center technologies; special projects as assigned, which may include helping other library departments. Attention to detail is critical for this position. Must be available to work all open library hours, including evenings and weekends. (approx. 20 students)

*Ames Library Technology Support*

          Ames Library Technology Support student assistants provide preventative maintenance (cleaning and software updates) on all public computers and printers; maintain service center printers; print poster requests, lamination requests and color print job requests; provide preventative maintenance on all equipment available for checkout including laptops, camcorders and camera's. Also students assistants will assist help desk students with problem resolution during the evening hours.(approx. 4 students)

*Archives and Special Collections Student Assistant*

          Archives Assistants must possess good customer service skills and work carefully wit historical materials and rare or fragile books. This work often includes using scanning equipment and maintaining websites, databases and spreadsheets. Assistants must be willing to articulate the limits of their own understanding, to stay focused during tedious tasks and to exercise confidentiality when dealing with sensitive or private information. The archives is open Monday-Friday during the day and some early evening hours. (approx. 5-6 students)

*Reserves & Digital Projects Assistant*

           Processes and scans requests for traditional and electronic reserves; assists in researching publisher policies for faculty publications, scanning and uploading in support of digital collections work in the library. The hours for this job are M-F 8-3. (approx. 2 students)

*Periodicals Student Assistant*

          Duties include checking-in, shelving and maintaining current periodicals; distributing mail; searching the library catalog and other bibliographic sources; helping with special projects as assigned, which may include helping other library departments.  The hours for this job are M-F 8-4:30. ( 1 student)

*Cataloging Student Assistant*

          Duties include processing of all new and reclassified library materials, including books, DVDs, compact discs, etc.; searching the library catalog and other bibliographic sources; helping with special projects as assigned, which may include helping other library departments.The hours for this job are M-F 8-4:30. (1 student)

*Acquisitions Student Assistant*

          Duties include searching the library catalog and acquisitions system to verify and match records; inputting order and invoice information; processing new materials and invoices; helping with special projects as assigned, which may include helping other library departments.The hours for this job are M-F 8-4:30. (1 student)

*Help@Ames Desk*

          The position of Help@Ames Student Assistant, stationed within the Ames Library, is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for a college person to develop important communication, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills in a customer service intensive environment. This position is also an opportunity for a student to acquire, demonstrate and develop a myriad of leadership skills. A successful applicant will need to demonstrate skill and polish in dealing with all types of IWU clients including students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, retirees and parents. Each Assistant must be willing and able to learn new skills and have a desire to provide excellent customer service assistance. They must also possess a strong interest in technology and library research. The associate must be willing to develop an extensive knowledge of Ames Library resources and IT Services and be able to use this information to direct, assist and refer clients appropriately. The Help@Ames Assistant will participate in a thorough, progressive and ongoing training regimen to assist them to develop the skill-level requirements of this position.

*Service and Repair Technician*

          The person in this position must apply existing technical skills and knowledge to accurately diagnose, service and repair computers that are personally owned by IWU students, faculty, staff, administrators or retirees. They should already possess a moderate skill set to accomplish necessary diagnosis and repairs (involving anything from virus removal to hardware troubleshooting), be reliable in attendance and in paying attention to detail, be customer service oriented and be able to work independently and as part of a team to ensure the best possible service to our clients. They will need to be able to identify and carry out "best practices" and adhere to strict ethical guidelines due to the personal data dealt with. This position offers the opportunity for furthering your hands-on technical skills as well as cooperative and coordinated work with cutting edge challenges that affect users in their daily lives.
