The Special Collections holds rare, valuable, and/or old items that are too delicate for the stacks. Each distinct collection is unrelated to the others, and vary in connection to the University.
For instance, the collection on former Professor John Wesley Powell is located in the Special Collections, but we also have a collection on the Beat Writers, who had no formal connection to the University, as well as records of active Environmental Groups from the Bloomington-Normal community.

In contrast to the Archives (which has only one Finding Aid), the Special Collections contains many different Finding Aids.
