POSITION: Assistant Professor of Trombone and Jazz, tenure-track appointment

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctoral degree in performance or in jazz (or equivalent professional experience).

An active performer.  Preference given to trombonists who are both classical and jazz performers.

Evidence of success as a classroom teacher at the collegiate level

A commitment to working and teaching with colleagues in the School of Music and across the University in a liberal arts environment

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach trombone and direct the IWU Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Lab Band, coach jazz combos, teach jazz improvisation, and teach jazz history.  Organize the School’s annual Jazz Festival.  Provide leadership of the Jazz Program, particularly with respect to curriculum development.  All music faculty members in the area of performance are expected to participate in music admissions activities (i.e., recruiting and auditioning students).

APPOINTMENT: Will begin August 1, 2012

SCHOOL OF MUSIC: The School of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (since 1930) and offers the Bachelor of Music degrees in Composition, Education, and Performance, the Bachelor of Arts in Music, and an arts management minor, which is offered in cooperation with the Department of Business Administration.  The School of Music has a full-time faculty of 21 and a part-time faculty of 30 who teach approximately 200 majors.
