The Psychology Department invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in psychology by the start date of August 2012. The position is in the area of animal learning and behavior broadly construed, including but not limited to comparative cognition, drugs and behavior, animal models of clinical problems, and behavioral neuroscience. Successful candidates will have an active program of research in animal behavior and will be able to teach classes that make use of our existing rat colony. The 3-3 teaching course load will include an introductory Learning and Condition course, an advanced Behavioral Psychology seminar and other seminars in the candidate’s area of expertise. Other departmental teaching needs include introductory psychology and research methods. The ability to teach courses that contribute to the University general education and writing programs will also be highly valued. Illinois Wesleyan University is a highly competitive private undergraduate liberal arts university that emphasizes quality teaching and student-faculty research collaboration. Support for research is provided in the form of start-up funds, laboratory space, computer labs, and university research grants. Applicants should submit both a statement of teaching philosophy that includes views on teaching within a liberal arts environment and a statement of research interests that outlines research goals and discusses the potential for undergraduate student involvement in the research. Applicants should also submit a vita, three letters of recommendation, reprints and evidence of teaching effectiveness. Within these documents, applicants should address potential contributions they can make to the University diversity initiative through their teaching, scholarship, or service.
