The desired candidate is able to assume both generalist and specialized teaching responsibilities in a program that certifies K-12 teachers and offers an interdisciplinary major in Educational Studies.  Preferred candidates will have philosophical and scholarly understandings of the teacher as scholar and artist, interdisciplinary expertise in Teacher Education, Teacher Research, Secondary Curriculum and Pedagogy in Language Arts, and Educational Technology.  Experience supervising student teachers and establishing positive relationships with public schools is essential.  Candidates familiar with state of Illinois teacher licensing requirements will be given preference. 

Qualifications:

• PhD. in Curriculum, Aesthetics, and Teacher Education.
• Record of successful teaching at the high school level which includes experience working with developmentally and culturally diverse populations.
• Record of teaching excellence at the collegiate level, scholarly publication, and university or community service.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Primary responsibilities: 

The position requires teaching six courses per year, including courses in university-wide general education and interdisciplinary programs on the basis of interest, need, and expertise.  Course load includes the following:  supervising student teachers and conducting concurrent seminar, secondary curriculum courses in pedagogy and a senior seminar on teacher research.  Student advising, engagement in scholarly research, and service to the university is required.
