  • Spring '07 - Created ten Sustainability Educator positions for residence hall programming
  • Facilitate annual Sustainability Week in the Fall semester
  • Participate in the annual Dumpster Dive
  • Present sustainability education to first year students during Fall Festival
  • Provide continued sustainability education in the residence halls via staff programming
  • Provided initial and ongoing sustainability training for paraprofessional staff
  • Facilitate annual "Clothing Swap" during early Spring semester
  • End of the year "Spring Cleaning" collection drive for unwanted items (clothes, carpet, furniture, etc) followed by a sale of those items the following Fall
  • Residence Hall Association constitutional amendment for environmental sustainability
  • Created universal “Think Green” advertising campaign
  • Supported establishment of “PreShrunk,” an on campus thrift store
  • Sent three representatives to AASHE biennial conference in Raleigh, NC
  • Helped to facilitate Focus the Nation, a day-long, campus-wide teach-in on global warming in Spring 2008 that engaged 700 IWU community members.

Continuing Initiatives

  • Participate in national “Focus on the First 100 Days” on February 5, 2009
  • Include sustainability themes in leadership training and development of RAs and RHA and Hall leaders
  • Coordinate “Think Green” campaign with Hart Career Center on campus
  • Survey all new and continuing RSO applicants for how they imagine making contributions to campus sustainability issues
  • Work with Sodexho on issues of going trayless, composting, supplying biodegradable dishware as the norm (vs. charging extra for it), increasing vegetarian/vegan offerings in Commons and other dining services outlets
  • Review residence hall recycling information, standards and procedures
  • Enhance available information on local public transportation in residence halls
  • Provide information on sustainability before students arrive on campus via website and reemphasize after first year and transfer students arrive
  • Review practices during New Student Orientation with an eye toward improving sustainability
  • Promote a green building commitment for new campus buildings
  • Encourage establishment of Sustainability Coordinator position or enhance capacity of GREENetwork to ensure the implementation of the Talloires Declaration
