All National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. fraternities and sororities in the area are established as core/city-wide chapters which are based on the campus of Illinois State University. Membership in these organizations is open to IWU students as long as they meet the membership requirements and have been selected through the membership intake process.

Currently, the following NPHC, Inc. organizations are recognized at Illinois State University and therefore open for IWU students to join.

• Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
• Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
• Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
• Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
• Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
• Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. have existed but are currently not recognized by either ISU or IWU.
