German Studies at IWU

Distinctive Differences

We host one of only two German undergraduate research conferences for advanced students in the United States. Our students help to plan and also participate in this conference. We are unique in that we offer a Ger 101 course that has a component that focuses on German in the workplace. Qualifying students may take Ger 102 or 201 during May term in Germany

A Strong Humanities Perspective with Career Preparation

Part of the Humanities, our program guides students as they explore "what it means to be human" through the lens of the German cultural tradition. While doing so, students gain interdisciplinary expertise in German speaking countries, fluency in German, critical thinking skills, communication and intercultural communication skills. Gain practical vocabulary and life skills and an advanced level in German Business Culture. Trace German roots in Illinois. Learn the flexibility that comes from study abroad and a degree at one of the top liberal arts schools.
