Summer Reading Program

Book Cover

The University Speakers Committee and the First-Year Advisory Board are pleased to announce that Three Cups of Tea has been chosen for the 2009 Summer Reading Program and the author, Greg Mortenson, will speak at the President's Convocation on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall.

The Summer Reading Program is an opportunity for students of the class of 2013 to participate in a shared intellectual conversation with the Illinois Wesleyan community; to express ideas about a common text that many students, faculty, and staff are reading; and to respond respectfully to ideas others bring to the discussion.

Faculty and staff colleagues, Board of Trustee members, Bloomington-Normal business and community leaders, students, and alumni will join in introducing first-year students to our engaged campus community in small group discussions during Turning Titan: New Student Orientation.

Illinois Wesleyan is committed to the Summer Reading Program because reading, as well as reflecting, discussing, and writing critically are central to the mission of our liberal arts college.

The Summer Reading Program offers the entering class an example of what to expect in four years on campus in terms of critical thinking, effective communication, and the spirit of inquiry found both in and out of the classroom.
