Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students
There’s a lot to be excited about this year at IWU. Between new buildings, new programs, and new opportunities, the positive momentum and investment in the student experience is very strong. I’ve outlined some of the things that we’re sharing with students this fall:
Building projects and office changes:

New programs and educational efforts:
Technology updates: A special thanks to the Information Technology Services staff, who worked all summer to start bringing ubiquitous wireless service throughout campus – yes, that means everywhere (residence halls, academic buildings, the Eckley Quad … everywhere!) The new SSID (wireless network name) is IllinoisWesleyan. Students will use their NetID and Password to get connected. More detailed instructions can be found on the ITS Website. In addition to wireless, IWU is now a member of the Central Illinois Regional Broadband Network, which will increase our Internet bandwidth from 155 MB to 1 GB – or more than 6 times the capacity than last spring. We are adding a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) phone system to support campus phones. New computers are being installed in Presser 301 – in support of the music program – and in The Ames Library. So, students are getting speed and access in unprecedented ways on campus! Thanks for your patience!
Policy changes : We have added or revised several policies in the Student Code of Conduct. In response to the State of Illinois Concealed Carry legislation, we reviewed our campus weapons policy. Colleges and universities are exempt from allowing concealed carry so we continue to prohibit all weapons on campus. In response to a growing interest in tailgating with alcohol at football games, we reviewed our alcohol policy regarding tailgating and added a clear policy. Football-only tailgating with alcohol will be permitted for students over age 21 in designated areas only within the guidelines outlined. The policy can be found at www.iwu.edu/judicial/tailgating.html.
Again, we are thrilled about these new opportunities to enhance the student experience at IWU. We look forward to seeing you at Family Weekend, Sept. 27-29.
