As we come to the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the Muslim Student Association, will reflect on the meaning of Islam and will share the experience of the observance of Ramadan.  All are welcome.

Hillel Jewish Student Association will lead our Chapel Hour, blow the shofar and teach us about Yamim Nora’im or the Days of Awe that begin with Rosh Hashanah.  This will be a great introduction to an exciting New Year celebration of this High Holy Day.

Chapel Hour Service: "Love: Through it All"

Alumni, families, students, faculty, staff, the whole community are invited to the Homecoming Service of Worship us as we talk about our universal need to love and to be loved.  At the end of the worship service, those in our IWU family who met on campus and were married at Evelyn Chapel will reaffirm their wedding vows in honor of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Chapel.  This joyful service will include special music and an alumni choir.  Hope to everyone will join us with us in celebration!

Chapel Hour Service: Creating Sabbath: Chapel Hour Playtime

Feeling stressed?  Wish mid-terms were over?  Need some play in your schedule?  If so, we have just the break you need.  Join us for a playful Chapel Hour with bubbles, paints, chalk, color-books, Wii and other things that help us remember what re-creation is all about.  This is a perfect way to relieve your stress and play.

Who says that we only have to sit still and listen in order to learn?  Today we are going to break out of the mold.  On Wednesday, we will gather at Evelyn Chapel where we will spend a moment in reflection and then we will separate into groups that will go and spend half an hour in service around our campus.  It is just the balance needed in days spent in classes taking notes.  Join us in getting out and serving one another!

Join us for this worship service on All Saint’s Day in which we will hear and proclaim God’s love and grace even as we recognize that saints are not so far away.

Chapel Hour Special Guest: The Rev. Effie McClain

Rev. Effie is back!  Join us as the Rev. Effie McClain leads us in worship in a dynamic and delightful style all her own.   Rev. McClain is an ordained Elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. She has taught at Bennett College for Women, a traditional UMC school. She is a proponent for social justice and the rights of all people.  Effie believes that the love of God transcends an individuals station in life regardless of how much or how little they have, the color of their skin, the language they speak, who or whom they love, or the lands from which the come. Join us for an inspired and inspiring service of worship.

Special Service:  Hanukkah Celebration

Location:  Main Lounge, Memorial Center

Hanukkah is the annual Jewish festival celebrated on eight successive days beginning on the 25th day of Kislev, the third month of the Jewish calendar, corresponding, approximately, to December in the Gregorian calendar. It is also known as the Festival of Lights, Feast of Dedication, and Feast of the Maccabees. Let’s get together for a joyful celebration that remembers a time of tangible miracles with the lighting of Menorahs, telling an amazing story, singing together and playing games.  It will be fun for everyone and more!

Chapel Hour Service:  Hanging of the Greens

Location:  Evelyn Chapel

Get into the holiday spirit by decorating the Chapel during the Chapel Hour Service.  We will move around the space and place fresh greens in the windows, wreaths on the doors and of course, ornaments on the tree.  There is always something for everyone at Evelyn Chapel.

Special Service:  Kwanzaa Celebration

Location:  Main Lounge, Memorial Center

Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-African holiday which celebrates family, community and culture. Celebrated from 26 December thru 1 January, its origins are in the first harvest celebrations of Africa from which it takes its name. The name Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase "matunda ya kwanza" which means "first fruits" in Swahili, a Pan-African language which is the most widely spoken African language.  Join us as we celebrate the richness and cultural appreciation of this holiday with wonderful food, great story telling and dynamic community engagement.  This is one event you will not want to miss.  Everyone is welcome.

Special Service:  Christmas Around the World

Location:  Evelyn Chapel

Join us Friday, December 4 at 5:00 p.m. for a uniquely global Christmas Service in Evelyn Chapel. During this service, faculty, staff and students will read lessons, sing and share musical pieces in their native languages all while sharing in a common story of light illuminating the darkness in our world. Before this special service, the Modern and Classical Language faculty along with students and staff from across the University will host a special reception downstairs in Evelyn Chapel at 4:30 p.m. They will share refreshments from different countries and cultures. This is a great beginning for what is to be a dynamic service. Hope to see you there.
