"Follow Your Dreams" Scholarship
Illinois Wesleyan’s Black Student Union has instated an annual scholarship in order to support minority high school students seeking higher education. Minority high school seniors graduating in spring 2010 will be eligible for this scholarship. In order to be considered, the graduating senior must have a G.P.A of 2.5 or higher and must be attending an institution of higher learning immediately following high school.
Applicants will be required to submit an essay of 500-700 words answering the following questions: ‘How have you been a positive influence in your community?’, ‘What inspires you to be a positive role model to others?’, and ‘Why have you decided to pursue a college education?’
In addition to the essay, the applicants will be required to include their most current high school transcript, proof of their acceptance into a college, and at least one letter of recommendation from a high school teacher. Scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the essay, transcript and content of the letter(s) of recommendation. The deadline to apply for the scholarship will be April 28, 2010. The recipient(s) of the scholarship will be announced later in the spring.
The amount of money awarded depends on available funds. This means that we are dependent on donations and fundraising revenue. This year we will award two scholarships in the amount of $250 each. Donations of all sizes are graciously accepted. Those that are interested in supporting this scholarship can deliver donations to Illinois Wesleyan’s business office or contact Benjamin Billups at email@example.com.
For those who would like to donate through the business office, the scholarship account number is 229110 and the fund number is 712135. Make sure your name is taken down so that BSU can identify all that have contributed to this scholarship fund.
