AMES SCHOOL OF ART
THE MERWIN & WAKELEY GALLERIES
Dates: April 8 – April 22, 2014Reception: Saturday, April 12 - 1-3PM, in the galleries
Join us for the annual BFA / BA Senior Art Exhibitions in which graduating art majors exhibit their finest works produced during the senior year. The exhibition, held in the University’s Merwin and Wakeley Galleries, will include works from all areas of the art program: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, graphic design, ceramics, sculpture and glass. This year, nineteen students will be participating in the exhibition:
At the reception on Saturday, April 12th, four special awards will be presented:
The Ames Library Purchase Award
The CLA Social Sciences Art Purchase Award
The Admissions Art Purchase Award
Senior Exhibition Honors
Each year the Ames Library purchases an artwork from the Senior Show to add to their permanent collection. For the duration of one year, this work is displayed on the first floor of the Library after which time it is moved to a permanent location for public display in the library.
Also to be presented is the CLA Social Sciences Art Purchase Award. For over twelve years, members of the IWU Social Sciences faculty have supported a Purchase Award for their building. This purchase award has also built a substantial collection of student artwork that can be seen throughout the CLA building.
Now in its sixth year the Admissions Purchase Award will give a student the honor of having a piece of his or her art work on permanent display in the new admissions building. This award winning work is chosen by the Dean of Admissions and the Dean of Enrollment.
The prestigious Senior Exhibition Honors award is given out annually to seniors who are considered outstanding by the school of art faculty. The Exhibition Honors Award is given not only based on these students dedication and hard work exhibited over the course of their senior year but more importantly because of the outstanding quality of work they have produced. The school of art faculty chooses this award.
Following the reception on April 12th, the University-wide John Wesley Powell Student Research Conference will come to the galleries later that afternoon. At 2PM, those students who have participated in the senior critique program will talk about their works on display in the galleries. Refreshments will be served, and both these events are free and open to the public.
