"Marcfirst was started in 1955 by a group of families with children with disabilities as a way to provide support for each other at a time when children with disabilities were often excluded from the public school system. Today Marcfirst provides support for adults with developmental disabilities, as well as children from birth until age twelve who have a developmental disability or delay, or who are at risk for a delay. Some of the services that Marcfirst provides includes a
supported employment program, developmental training, residential housing, and FriendsFirst, a drop-in program for adults with developmental disabilities. These programs and the others that Marcfirst help it achieve its mission "to guarantee the personal dignity of people with developmental disabilities and to promote their personal achievements based on their dreams, desires and abilities."
