Ecology Action Center
The Ecology Action Center is a central resource for environmental education, information, and outreach for McLean County. We educate for environmental action at our walk-in information center and through our educational programs on a variety of environmental topics.
Mission Statement:
To inspire and assist residents of McLean County in creating, strengthening, and preserving a healthy environment.
Our major roles in the Bloomington-Normal and broader McLean County community:
- Solid waste agency
- Promotion ofwaste reduction, recycling, composting and proper disposal of household hazardous waste
- Administration of nontraditional recycling programs
- CFL recycling
- Household battery recycling
- Plastic garden pot recycling
- Coordination of waste planning for the area municipalities
- Implementation the McLean County Solid Waste Plan
- Coordination of Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events
- Mclean County Radon Awareness Program
- Clean Water Protection Program
- Promotion of behaviors leading to reduction of nonpoint source water pollution
- Yard Smart sustainable landscaping program
- Rain barrel workshops
- Rain gardens
- Fostering sustainable lifestyle practices
- Acting as a clearinghouse of local environmental resources
