ARC intern stencils "Dump no waste, Empties to rivers" on Bloomington street |
The independent study is third in ARC's three course action research sequence. The independent study is focused on the student completing a community-based research project. Students enrolled in the third semester also help organize the introductory class and mentor students new to action research.
ARC's innovative projects frequently take students to unexpected places. Students engage in primary research that takes them behind the statistics marshaled in the secondary research. They develop relationships with their community counterparts and learn first hand how people are affected by government or business. They return to the classroom with new eyes.
"Adam Clark's ARC project working with Friends of the Constitution Trail peaked his curiosity about the role of the Internet in spurring a new generation of volunteering. He tackled this question with methodological rigor in his honors research paper."
