Your hometown? |
Jessica & Laura: Glendale Heights, Illinois |
Why Wesleyan? |
Jessica: I was set on attending DePaul University, but found Wesleyan during the month of February of my senior year. Not only did I find Wesleyan to be a small liberal arts school with a GREAT science program, but the faculty also seemed genuinely concerned about their students’ success. After my second visit, I knew attending any other school would be a mistake. Laura: I chose Wesleyan because of the great science program, and I knew that coming here would allow me to get that one-on-one time that I wanted with my professors. Also, I thought everyone was really friendly, and so I knew this was the right school for me. |
Your major? |
Jessica & Laura: Environmental Studies with a pre-med concentration. |
Favorite professor or class? |
Jessica & Laura: Dr. (Kathy) House. Jessica: She has a real passion for teaching and she was ALWAYS there to help her students – even on Sundays! Laura: Dr. House really made Chemistry easier to understand and went out of her way to help me whenever I needed it. |
After Wesleyan? |
Jessica & Laura: Go to medical school and become a pediatrician. Jessica: I also plan on joining the Peace Corps one day. It would be an amazing experience! Laura: My sister and I plan to have our own practice one day but for now we are taking it one step at a time. |
For fun? |
Jessica: Going dancing with friends, pool, group exercise classes, and hanging out with old friends from home. We’ve grown up together so we always have the best time together. Laura: I love watching movies, taking mini road trips to find the best food, and I love going on runs whenever I’m bored or just need to relieve some stress. |
Favorite book? |
Jessica:
The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. The fact that she pays homage to the lives of women makes her one of my favorite authors. Laura: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende. |
Favorite quote? |
Jessica: “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.’" – Emma Bombeck Laura: “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson |

| Jessica and Laura Solis '14 say attending college as twins helps to keep each other focused. They join a tradition of siblings and "legacy" enrollment at Illinois Wesleyan, with family members attending together or in each others' footsteps. |
