Brittany Hasselbring '12 is point guard on the women's basketball team, which advanced to the final 16 in the NCAA Division III championships in 2009 and 2010. She is interning at State Farm Insurance.

Your hometown?

Watseka, Illinois. A town of a whopping 5,600 people. I think the livestock outnumber the people.

Why Wesleyan?

Interestingly enough I didn’t start out at Wesleyan; however, I transferred because I felt it had the balance I was looking for between academics and athletics. I won’t hesitate to say that I got it right the second time around; I couldn’t be happier with where I am at.

Your major?

Accounting

Favorite professor or class?

Sarah Riehl; she genuinely cared about helping her students learn and had a passion for teaching. Luckily I got to have her for Business 112 (Accounting I) before she retired.

After Wesleyan?

Well fingers crossed, I pass all parts of the CPA exam and get a job working for an accounting firm in Chicago. After getting some experience, I hope to venture into the field of finance, where the majority of my interest lies.

Biggest thrill or best memory?

Being a part of numerous big wins on the IWU women’s basketball team.

For fun?

Hanging out with friends, water sports, and anything that involves a good adventure.

The best?

A sweet assist or pulling off an “upset.”

Favorite book?

I’m not a huge reader but recently I read Freakonomics by Stephen D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. It was a very easy read and made some very interesting/quirky comparisons.

Favorite band?

My older sister got me hooked on the Goo Goo dolls in high school. But for the most part I like a little bit of everything minus the heavy “headbanger” music.

Favorite movie?

A couple of my favorites are Love and Basketball and The Sandlot.

Favorite quote?

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall” — Confucius
