Ethernet and Wireless Network Connections

Illinois Wesleyan residence hall rooms are port per pillow, which means that each person in a room has their own telephone jack and computer network jack. Each jack is labeled for easy identification. A single cable TV outlet is also provided in every room.

How does my computer connect to the network?

  • Your computer will need an Ethernet adapter, and the appropriate cable.
  •  The Default DHCP installation settings are appropriate to access the Illinois Wesleyan campus network
  • Information Technology suggests having the Ethernet adapter installed into your computer prior to arriving
  • Complimentary network configuration is available at the IT House, if needed
  • You also need an Ethernet patch cord to connect the Ethernet adapter in the computer to the wall jack in the residence hall room

Ethernet adapters and patch cords are available at most consumer electronic stores and are also available at Illinois Wesleyan University bookstore.

How do I connect to the Illinois Wesleyan Wireless network?

Note: Illinois Wesleyan University technology policy prohibits the use of wired or wireless hubs in residence halls to extend the existing campus network.

Wireless access is currently available in buildings such as the Ames Library and the Hansen Student Center, Buck Memorial Library, Center for Natural Science, and the Memorial Center. Portions of Evelyn Chapel and Stevenson Hall also have wireless networks. See our instructions for setting up your computer for campus wireless access for more information.
