Red Condor Spam Filter

What is Red Condor?

Red Condor is a filter which can be set up to block, allow or filter out suspicious e-mails sent to your Illinois Wesleyan e-mail account.

How can I tell what Red Condor has been doing?

Every user who is sent suspicious e-mail will receive a periodic Spam Digest from the Red Condor system. This e-mail message provides a summary of all e-mail that was filtered out and placed in quarantine. It also provides a link to your Personal Dashboard, a website where you can manage your spam filter settings.

Once you have clicked on Personal Dashboard, you can browse messages that have been filtered out by the Red Condor system. You can also choose to edit your settings.

How can I keep good e-mails from being caught in the Spam Filter?

Red Condor provides a service called "Whitelisting" that will cause an e-mail address or server to be permanently allowed through to your inbox. A quick way to whitelist an address is as follows:

  • Open a Spam Digest e-mail and click on Personal Dashboard
Red Condor Quarantine view

Choose a time period to view quarantined messages

  • Select a time period to view
  • Click "Find"
  • Click the checkbox for each good e-mail in the list
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "View"
  • For each good e-mail, click the checkbox to release the message.
  • Click the checkboxes to either add the e-mail address or server address to your whitelist. Whitelisting the server address will cause all messages from any sender using that e-mail server to bypass the Spam Filter.

The Whitelist can also be modified manually from the Red Condor settings.

Why do messages of certain types, containing foreign languages or with certain attachments wind up in Red Condor?

Red Condor uses a number of factors to determine whether a message is junk. Many of these settings can be adjusted using the Red Condor Personal Dashboard.

  • Open a Spam Digest e-mail and click on Personal Dashboard
  • Choose the "Settings" Tab
  • Modify the action Red Condor should take for different types of suspicious e-mail. "Block" means that e-mails will not be saved in Red Condor, delivered to you, or bounced back. They will be deleted upon receipt.
  • Click to remove the checkbox from languages or attachment types that you wish to allow through the filter
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save"
