LCMS: The Luminis Content Management System is web based software that allows users to concentrate on the content (primarily text and images) of a web page without having to worry about design and structure. The part of the LCMS that you will use to manage your web pages is called Site Studio.
Workgroup: LCMS uses the term Workgroup to mean more than just a web page. A Workgroup includes not only the content but design templates, the people who will contribute content, policies and procedures. A Workgroup is essentially a logical division of the Illinois Wesleyan Web. For example, Admissions would have its own Workgroup with its own set of web pages and users, and its own set of rules for what those users can do.
Webview: A collection of files within a Workgroup that will be presented to users. The term Webview is similar to the traditional concept of a website.
Layout: A pre-defined web page design for your LCMS Webview. Layouts are designed to be used at specific levels of a Webview. For example, the first page of the English Department Webview uses a three-column layout. Pages linked from your navigation sidebar use a two-column level 2 layout. Third level pages use a two-column level 3 layout. These layouts have been designed to provide consistency across all IWU web pages and to give users a visual cue that they have moved deeper within our campus web hierarchy.
Roles: Users have permission to perform tasks based on their User Role. For example, a student worker may be given the Content Contributor Role for the Admissions Workgroup. This student would be able to edit text and images within each page but could not delete pages or create folders. These tasks would be reserved for a staff or faculty member with a manager level Role for the Admissions Workgroup.
