Getting Started with Luminis Content Management

To log in to the Luminis system you will need to create a channel in the My.IWU portal. This places a link on the front page of the My.IWU portal that takes you to the Luminis Site Studio login screen. Please contact the Office of Information Technology to request a link for your My.IWU home page.

Once you have your LCMS window open, click on the “My Workgroups” tab along the top of the page. You should be able to see each Workgroup that you have the ability to work on. My Workgroups shows you the root of each Workgroup – you can use this tab as a home base for working in LCMS.

Webviews in LCMS

Webviews are located inside Workgroups and contain all your web files

From within a Workgroup you can view all available Webviews and Subgroups and a folder called “Shared Files”. You could place files that multiple web pages will share in common within the Shared Files folder. For example, a printable form in PDF format could be stored in the Shared Files folder and linked to from individual web pages.

Actions Available Within a Webview

Inside a Webview

Within a Webview you should see all folders and files that make up the individual web pages of your department website. Along the top you will find a set of "Folder Actions". Folder Actions include:

  • A “New Document” link which allows you to create a new blank web page from scratch.
  • A link called “Import” that allows you to copy images and files from your own computer to the server for use in a web page.
  • Content Managers should also see a link titled “New Folder”. It is a good idea to create a folder called “images” within each Webview. It is also advisable to create folders for other content that is updated on a regular basis, such as a monthly newsletter or weekly event calendar. This will make your Webview easier to maintain in the future.

There are also links associated with each file. These include:

  • A gray “I” icon which gives you access to basic information about a file. For example, one could change the file name of a document by clicking on the gray "I" icon.
  • A “View” link for previewing a document within the LCMS. This is used to proofread content and to check links and styles before publishing a page.
  • “Checkout”, which allows a user to hold a file in reserve so another user cannot edit it. This is useful for departments with multiple users updating the same Webview.
  • “Edit”, which opens the LCMS web editor allowing you to add new content or modify existing content.
  • “More”, which leads you to a menu containing some advanced functions including “Delete”. This is the correct way to remove a file from a Webview. You must exercise caution when deleting files – removing a file will probably break links on other pages and may break links from the Navigation sidebar!
