Setting up the "IWU-Wireless" wireless network

Instructions:

Windows XP-SP3/Vista

Mac OS X Tiger

Mac OS X Leopard

iPhone/iPod Touch

Illinois Wesleyan provides secure wireless networking in selected locations on campus. In order to use the new "IWU-Wireless" network, members of the campus community must log-in to the network using their NetID and password. Windows users will need to install software in order to use the wireless network.

Please follow the instructions below to configure your computer to use the "IWU-Wireless" wireless network. If you need assistance please contact the Information Technology Help Desk at 309-556-3900 or http://help.iwu.edu/ (web link is on-campus only)

Windows XP-SP3/Vista

Step 1: Remove the old "IWU Secure" Wireless software:

Windows XP-SP3 (Service Pack 3 is required):
  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Double-click "Add/Remove Programs"
  3. Select "Secure W2 TTLS Client" from the list and choose "Remove"
Windows Vista:
  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Double-click "Programs and Features"
  3. Select "Secure W2 TTLS Client" from the list and choose "Remove"

Step 2: Reboot your computer

Step 3: Download and install the Secure Wireless software:

  • Open the IWUWireless folder and double-click the SecureW2 EAP Suite installer file.
  • Proceed through the installation prompts.
    • Choose a Language (click OK)
    • Proceed through the prompts to complete the installation

Step Four: Reboot your computer

Step Five: Configure your wireless connection and connect:
(You will need to be in an IWU-Wireless location)

  • If you are in an IWU wireless location you will see a wireless connection notification.

  • Click on the notification bubble.

Enter your Illinois Wesleyan Net ID and Password

Mac OS X Tiger

Step 1: Turn on Airport in the top menu bar of your Mac.

Step 2: Select IWU-Wireless from the list of wireless networks

Select IWU-Wireless

Step 3: Change 802.1X Configuration to TTLS –PAP and enter your NetID and password

Enter your User Info

Step 4: Click Continue to connect to the IWU-Wireless network.

Accept the Certificate

Mac OS X Leopard

Step 1:    Click on the Airport in the top menu bar of your Mac, then select "Open Network Preferences"  from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Make sure the Airport is On, and click the "Advanced..." button on the bottom right.

Step 3: Under the "Airport" tab, click the + button to add IWU-Wireless as a preferred network. Choose WPA2 Enterprise for Security, and enter your my.iwu username and password. Click "Add"

Step 4: Move over to the "802.1X" tab and click the + to add a user profile. Name the profile IWU-Wireless. Enter your username and password on the right, and select IWU-Wireless as the Wireless Network.

Step 5: In the "Authentication" box on that same page,  ONLY check TTLS. With TTLS selected, click the "Configure..." box. Select PAP as the Inner Authentication, the other field can remain blank.

Step 6: Click "OK" on that screen, and "Apply" on the next. You may have to turn your Airport off and then back on again for the settings to take. You will get a box that pops up asking for Authentication of the Certificate - click OK.

iPhone/iPod Touch

Download the iPhone/iPod Touch wireless client.  The iPod Touch requires an open network to access the file.  Please go to the ITS House for assistance.
