As spring urges you to dust cobwebs and shine windows, consider brewing you own cleaners in place of more toxic commercial ones containing ammonia and bleach. With five basic ingredients-- baking soda, washing soda, borax, liquid soap (like castile or detergent, distilled water vinegar-- you can clean everything in the house, safely. For an excellent resource with many handy recipes try "Better Basics for the Home" by Annie Berthold-Bond, 1999.Be sure to label all bottles carefully; use rubber gloves when needed, and keep products away from children, just as you would commercial cleaning products.
